Medical Vision reaches milestone
NACKA, Sweden – June 30, 2011 – Medical Vision AB recently reached a milestone in its ambition to become a key competitor in the market of fluid management in arthroscopy. The 400th pump has been delivered from the facility in Nacka, Sweden. Medical Vision manufactures and markets arthroscopy pumps both under its own brand Double® Pump as well as OEM branded pumps. The 400th pump happened to be a PowerPump™ DP bound for the American market.

The American market poses a very interesting opportunity for Medical Vision. The PowerPump™ DP was launched at the AAOS in San Diego in February 2011 together with Biomet Sports Medicine. To this date approximately 100 PowerPump™ DP’s have been delivered to the American market.

“We are happy to see that the interests for user-friendly, high tech pumps are spreading and that the knowledge for the importance of proper fluid management is growing among the users”
says Anders Möllstam, Managing Director at Medical Vision in Nacka, Sweden.

Warehouse move
NACKA, Sweden – July 25, 2011 – Medical Vision AB announces the warehouse move from Gothenburg, Sweden to Malsfeld, Germany. In order to offer competitive logistic solutions, shorten the delivery times and lower freight costs for our customers, Medical Vision has decided to make this strategically important move.

All high volume products such as Double® Pump and PowerPump™ DP Cassettes and Arthro-Tube™ Tubings will be affected by the move. All pumps, as well as all pump accessories, will continue to be delivered from the facility in Nacka, Sweden.

New Double® Pump software released
NACKA, Sweden – June 24, 2011 – Medical Vision® AB announces the release of new software for Double® Pump and PowerPump™ DP.  The update focuses on improving the pump Rinse functionality. The Rinse function is used when the operator wants to increase both pressure and flow at the same time, i.e. when blood is detected.

The improvements of the Rinse function are:
  • The Rinse function will remain active after a Shaver has been used. Rinse was earlier deactivated when a connected Shaver was used.
  • When the SmartVision™ function is triggered and the Rinse function is active (by pressing the Rinse pedal), the SmartVision™ will temporarily be deactivated, to ensure that the pressure is controlled by the Rinse function.

Through this software upgrade the pump will be functioning even better and solving a problem that users, not used to the SmartVision™ function have experienced.

The functionality is being rolled out during the summer and early fall.

SmartVision® patent approved in USA

NACKA, Sweden – July 19, 2011 – Medical Vision AB celebrates the approval of the SmartVision® patent (US 7,981,073 B2) in USA. The innovation is implemented in all pump systems manufactured by Medical Vision and one of the main competitive advantages compared to other pumps on the market.

The technology, branded as SmartVision®, is a revolutionary solution to visibility problems during endoscopic surgery performed in conjunction with a fluid management system.  When SmartVision® is in use, the pump system detects substances that have influence on the visibility during surgery. The SmartVision® adjusts flow and pressure automatically in the operation site so that full visibility is maintained.  The Medical Vision owned technology was invented by Mr. Sven Milton, Dr. Tomas Movin and Mr. Anders Möllstam in 2006 after extensive research, some of it in collaboration with Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

“We hope to explore this very useful technology further and implement it in products intended for other endoscopic markets in the near future”
says Ulf Wedin, CTO at Medical Vision.

The US patent belongs to a wider patent family that is globally filed and registered.
